Beallach na Ba Cycle Adventure

A weekend adventure on the gravel bikes in February was top fun. This route included a large section of the North Coast 500 and was surprisingly quiet for cycling (maybe as it was a bit wet and windy!)

This 90 mile route makes a fantastic overnight trip showing some fantastic scenery typical of the North Coast 500 cycle route:

Lochcarron to Applecross to Sheildaig DAY 1 – 43 miles with 5,000 feet of ascent.

We enjoyed lunch at the Applecrosse Inn. We stayed in Sheildaig Village.

Sheildaig to Kinlochewe, to Achnasheen to Lochcarron DAY 2 – 47 miles with 2,000 feet of ascent.

We left Sheildaig and stopped for coffee at Kinlochewe Stores after around 18 miles. Later in the year there is a cafe by Achnasheen but this was closed in February. For the full 90 mile route see google maps – click here.

If you enjoy cycling in the Highlands this makes a perfect overnight trip. The Off Beat Bikes team are experienced in this sort of bike packing adventure and would be happy to advise on bikes, bags and clothing to take. They stock a full range of everything you might need including tools and spares too. For adventures closer to Fort William check out the West Highland 100 – see here.
