2009 Leanachan A Round 3

Below freezing conditions led to a fast but surprisingly grippy course for the Wheelers at Leanachan Forest. A battle royal between the 2 Gavins led to Gavin Shirley pipping Gavin Maclean by just 6 seconds for first place. Gavin’s brother, James just failed to catch a tiring Gregor Muir for third spot. Many other riders enjoyed their own personal competitions down the field with Steve Bradley being particularly pleased by some of the scalps taken on his climb up the rankings. Nix Forster took line honours for the ladies in front of Marian Austin. Callum Fraser and Michael Lawrie stuck at it on the long road back to the finish whereas the unluckiest man of the day was David Mee. After an overnight repair session on his bike failed to get that back wheel to run true, a spare bike from Off Beat Bikes and a quick pedal-switch reinvigorated his challenge, only to be outdone by a puncture. Thanks to the Forestry Commission and all the helpers – next race is Invergarry on the 18th Jan.
