2009 Lochaline Round 2
The legendary Lochaline loop coincided with some ferocious wintry blasts as the Wheelers headed out onto the peninsula for Round 2 of the Winter League. Just prior to departing for late season training in Spain, Gavin Maclean proved to be far too strong for this field. His Spanish accomplice, Andrew Foggo also recorded an excellent third behind an ever-combative Gregor Muir. The Spanish trio is completed by Colleen Foggo who was just beaten to first place in the ladies race by KT Tuer. Jake Willis had set a course which tested the physical and mental stamina of all riders. Several of last year’s top contenders were content with cheering on the riders as they finished, wrapped in full winter duvet jackets. Putting them all to shame was 10 year old Tom MacMahon who bravely completed the course, just wearing shorts and a big grin. The Pier cafe then kindly hosted the riders as the heroic tales of the day became even more far-fetched. Next race is at Glenachulish on the 14th Dec. 1. Gavin Maclean 63:25
