2009 Fassifern Round 1
Bright sunshine and zero wind produced great cycling conditions for the Wheeler’s first race of the Winter League at Fassfern. Mike Thouless had set a testing course, long steady climbs combined with sketchy descents giving all riders equal amounts of fun and lung-busting pain. Gavin Maclean proved to be a worthy winner, coming in over 90 seconds clear of Gregor Muir and Hendry McNicol. KT Tuer was the first lady home, also claiming a few scalps in an overall top 10 finish. Graeme Corner, freshly back from a high-altitude training camp in the Alps, earned a highly creditable 10th position. One name to watch is Ben Miller, a mere 13 years of age, who left many more experienced riders toiling in his wake as he finished 13th. Thanks to Stuart Wilkie of Fassfern Estates, Mike T, Jim, Andrew and Colleen for providing an excellent introduction to the new season. Next race returns to the legendary Lochaline loop on the 23rd November.
