Invergarry Round 4 07/08 League
Round 4 of the Off Beat Bikes sponsored West Highland Wheelers Winter League took place at Invergarry on Sunday. Colleen Foggo and Gavin Maclean had marked the course out in 6 inches of snow the previous day but a thaw provided some grins for the riders as they splashed around in the mud. Ruari Watt shot away at the start to win by a handsome 4 minutes with Gavin Maclean gaining a well-earned second place. KT Tuer took the women’s race from Colleen Foggo. The usual range of equipment failures led James Shirley to break his chain, straining to keep up with Ruari over the first 100 metres. A quick roadside repair and some scintillating bog riding saw him finish in the Top 10. Alistair Maclennan suffered a puncture, careering down a downhill section in a somewhat cavalier fashion and so struggled to get back on terms.
Peter Ward and Ross Robertson also put in a good race to gain valuable League points. The next race is at Wolftrax on 24th Feb with the league positions being closely fought over. Thanks to Maggie Thompson and Jim Maxwell for timing and to the Forestry Commission for the great course.
